Thoughts and Reflections on the Word of God

Leaving “Home” To Find God-Genesis 12:1

Our families are our first support system.  It is hard to abandon all that we know to follow God. Our ideals of family vary. If we fall on hard times we expect those closest to us to take us in and provide emotional support. Some of us have experienced struggle with drug/alcohol abuse,  periods of homelessness,  emotional and mental issues, and even with insecurities that stem from abuse.  God knew all of Abraham’s background and makeup and asked Him to do what seems to be impossible. God was remaking Him into a new person after His heart.   Many nations would be blessed by Abraham’s obedience to God’s calling. God began His salvation project through the founding father of our faith.  God was going to bless Abraham’s faith with our promised Messiah through Abraham’s lineage. God was calling Abraham from his identity, His security, and familiarity (Genesis 17:5).

O Dry Bones, Hear the Word of the Lord! Scripture and Declaration- Ezekiel 37:3-4

And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” 4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. – Ezekiel 37:3-4
God has placed eternity in the hearts of all but not all will have the same destiny. (Ecclesiastes 3:11, Philippians 3:20,21) Although death is a natural part of living Children of God look forward to the time when will drink of the waters of eternal life in a heavenly paradise with God. But what if we are experiencing a “dry spell ” in our earthly lives with God now?

Ezekiel chapter 37 gives a thrilling account of God’s hand upon Ezekiel and leading him to a dry valley by the Spirit. God asks Ezekiel a profound question in this dry, mix of bones in this valley. He asks Ezekiel, ” Son of man can these bones live again?” There are many accounts in the bible where God begins an encounter with a question.( Genesis 3:9,10) God is all-knowing and asks questions to call out to the heart of man. (Genesis 4:6) God intersects in our lives and enters the picture to shift our paradigms and to remind us that He specializes in the impossible.
